Sam Anderson – Fall 2021

Heat Waves, Glaciers and The Lessons We Can Learn by Sam Anderson.

Sam Anderson, PhD student at the University of British Columbia and member of the Fall 2021 YVoS program, wrote a compelling op-ed about the lessons we as a society can learn from glaciers through how they responded to the June 2021 heat wave.  This piece was accepted to run at the Globe and Mail and was published on June 25th, 2022, on the 1st anniversary of the devastating heat wave.

Sam incorporated personal experience and his own research on glaciers into his op-ed, following the recipe and lessons learned from the op-ed workshop, hosted by David George Haskell. Sam also spoke at the opening of our YVoS Spring 2022 program, sharing his experience, successes and tips for getting the most out of this stellar science communication program.
