Elizabeth Smith is a PhD student at the University of Delaware, where she quantifies soil characteristics using digital soil mapping principles and machine learning techniques. More specifically, she is quantifying the spatial distribution of soil nitrogen across the United States.
On Earth Day, Elizabeth Smith led students in a 15-20 minute lesson about the history of Earth Day and its significance for her YVoS outreach project. They then make flower bombs using native seeds so they can spread them around their community. It’s incredibly timely, engaging, and interactive. Not only can students learn about the importance of species conservation on earth day, but they also have the opportunity to actively engage in promoting native species, something that will have positive repercussions for many months and years to come!
