Chloe Malouf graduated from Tulane University in 2024 with a Bachelor’s in Ecology. She plans to attain a master’s degree and ultimately a PhD in ecology, so she can teach and conduct research at a university level. She is also interested in pursuing a career in environmental justice, so she can develop policies to help the demographics most affected by climate change.
As she wrote in her application, she believes that “streamlined, interdisciplinary network of communication and collaboration between academics, activists, lawmakers, and communities would allow us to tackle the issues associated with climate change and environmental pollution in an unprecedented manner that is more efficient and robust than ever before.”
For her outreach project, Chloe aimed to raise awareness about a critical issue: whale mortality via shipping collisions. She wrote a sharp, insightful, and in-depth op-ed for publication partner Planet Forward entitled “Threading the eye of the needle: The race to save whales and decrease shipping collisions.”
Grounded in her experiences in French Polynesia, she details the unique magic of whale migrations and the many dangers they face through a collection of photos, videos, infographics and text. You can read the full piece here: https://planetforward.org/story/whales-shipping-collisions/.
