Jordan Graves – Spring 2026

Jordan Graves is a PhD student at Howard University whose research bridges reproductive biomechanics and environmental science. She brings a unique perspective shaped by her work in environmental justice and her engagement with underserved communities.

A key component of her doctoral research examines how industrial pollution, social stressors, and structural inequities interact to influence reproductive health outcomes in urban neighborhoods. Jordan recognizes that the underrepresentation of minorities in STEM is driven by a range of systemic barriers, including unequal access to quality education, healthcare, and community resources. Through her work, she hopes to explore how scientists can communicate more effectively, empower communities, and advocate for meaningful change by tailoring engagement efforts to reflect the experiences, needs, and priorities of the communities they serve.

As part of her outreach project, Jordan created an infographic that highlights the importance of environmental justice and the critical roles that community members, policymakers, and other stakeholders play in creating change. The infographic emphasizes the communication and collaboration needed across these groups to address environmental challenges and promote healthier communities. It encourages individuals to voice their concerns, engage in civic processes, and hold decision-makers accountable. Additionally, it provides resources and actionable steps for those interested in becoming more involved in environmental justice efforts. You can view her infographic below.
