Nina Grant – Spring 2026

Nina Grant is a Ph.D. student at Rutgers University whose research focuses on climate change, agriculture, extreme weather events, climate intervention, and regional climate downscaling. Working in a specialized and often misunderstood area of climate science has encouraged her to think critically about uncertainty, ethics, and how scientific nuance can be communicated clearly beyond academia.

Having studied and worked across the East Coast and now in the Bay Area, Nina has seen firsthand how different communities engage with science and scientists. These experiences have strengthened her appreciation for tailoring science communication to diverse audiences, and she is excited to learn alongside and collaborate with fellow program participants from around the world.

For her outreach project, Nina created a short film explaining her doctoral research on geoengineering and its impacts on tropical crops in clear, accessible language, without relying on technical jargon or prior scientific knowledge. She submitted the film to the Sigma Xi Student Research Showcase 2026, an annual national competition recognizing outstanding graduate student research across disciplines, where it earned first place in the graduate division.
