YVoS Staff Highlight

Dayna De La Cruz is our YVoS and Community Relations Senior Specialist, working in partnership with the YVoS Manager, the YVoS Student Coordinator, and the Hubbard Brook Community Relations Committee. Her work involves contributing to the organization of the YVoS program and creating a vibrant, inclusive, and creative workplace culture in which all participants have a voice and are empowered to effect positive change. Dayna is a YVoS alum from the Spring 2021 cohort and was a field technician at the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest in the Summer of 2018. She is a proud queer, Mexican-American, first-generation college student, wildlife ecologist and science communicator, deeply committed to advancing inclusivity and representation within STEM.

In addition to her work with HBRF and YVoS, Dayna recently joined the Open Environmental Data Project as the new social media intern, where she will be able to bring together all her work with running science-communication programs, organizing socio-ecological webinars, participating in environmental bi-partisan policy forums, advocating for field research safety, hosting science podcasts and creating science-communication social media videos.

Congratulations Dayna on your new role and for continuing to disseminate vital information that will not only increase data accessibility and stewardship, but also help communities and partners understand the valuable impact they can have.
