Sara De Sobrino – Fall 2024

Sara De Sobrino recently graduated from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities with a degree in Ecology, Evolution and Behavior, and a minor in sustainability studies, and has since been mainly working in ecological monitoring. Eager to get back into more science communication work, Sara applied for and was accepted to the Fall 2024 Young Voices of Science program. Sara’s science outreach experience extends well before the YVoS program, having worked at a natural history museum leading gallery tours and youth programming, as well as some general science writing for the Toolik Field Station Naturalist Journal.

For her outreach project, Sara wrote a captivating naturalist-style article, inspired by YVos Expert Presenter David George Haskell’s nature writing and from her past experiences documenting her time in Alaska. Sara wrote this piece based on observations of her environment, and where applicable explain the science behind what she observes and studies, providing a great mix of storytelling, personal narratives, scientific information and meaningful human connection. You can find Sara’s article and any of her future writing on her substack page HERE.
