Chantaly Villalona is a recent graduate from Virginia Tech with a masters in Civil Engineering. She is currently an ORISE Fellow in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in their office of research and development. Her ultimate career goal is to continue gaining lab experience with aquatic chemistry of leaded plumbing materials as a federal employee or through environmental consulting, and expects to return to Virginia Tech in the near future to complete her PhD. Chantaly has done a variety of science communication outreach focused on clean water and water resources, producing videos and ArcGIS maps, as well as acting as a mentor and leader for different science and writing groups.
For her outreach project, Chantaly wrote a compelling article titled “Didn’t You Hear? Resilience Is In. Discussing Climate Resilient Infrastructure and Communities”. This article explored climate resilient infrastructure and community resilience in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, and how we as communities can support one another and build resilience in the face of climate change.
