Destiny Howell – Fall 2024

Destiny Howell graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from CUNY Hunter College and is currently pursuing her PhD at the University of Texas at San Antonio, where her interests focuses on astrophysics and has expanded into nuclear energy, particularly the development of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).

During her undergraduate studies, she was also involved with the Columbia University Double Discovery Center (DDC). Destiny is passionate about enhancing her ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to a broader audience and believes in the importance of making science accessible to people from all backgrounds.

For her outreach project, Destiny wrote a personal narrative about her journey in physics, highlighting how her artistic skills played a pivotal role in sustaining her physics career. Her piece explores the intersection of art and science, showcasing how creativity helped her overcome challenges in the field. Destiny aims to inspire underrepresented individuals in STEM by sharing her unique story and emphasizing the value of creativity in scientific disciplines.
