The Sentimental Environmental(ist) Website and Book Review for Northern Woodlands Magazine
Trisha Bhujle is an undergraduate at Cornell University, majoring in Environment and Sustainability, and minoring in International Relations, International Trade and Climate Change. Trisha boasts an impressive resume of science communication experiences. She serves as a food insecurity and compost blogger for Anabel’s Grocery, a student-run grocery store at Cornell, detailing the science behind food waste breakdown in landfills and writing articles about compost’s role in enhancing soil fertility and minimizing greenhouse gas emissions. Trisha also acts as a compost manager for her dorm building at Cornell, writing emails and circulating information on where and how to compost food waste on campus.
As part of her experience in the program, Trisha redesigned, improved and added to her existing website, The Sentimental Environmental(ist), using knowledge and skills learned during the YVoS program. The website features blogs, creative pieces such as digital art and poetry, open letters, and research articles on topics related to climate change, food security, wildlife conservation, and other environmental issues. Recent pieces include an essay addressing the disconnect between American hunters and non-hunters in conversations on climate change, an open letter to the Lewisville Independent School District detailing ways to address district-wide food waste, and a creative piece on the potential of the Ice Age films to teach youngsters about global warming.
Also as part of her YVoS outreach project, in addition to updating her website, Trisha wrote a book review of Brant MacDuff’s novel The Shotgun Conservationist. Her review was accepted to Northern Woodlands Magazine and will be published in the Spring 2024 edition of the magazine.
