Abby is a PhD student at Boston University, studying biology and biogeosciences. Specifically, Abby’s research focuses on aquatic biogeochemistry, and examines carbon cycling and greenhouse gas fluxes in inland water (river and stream) ecosystems.
For their outreach project, Abby created educational collages that can be used to help educate and explain natural sources of greenhouse gases and their importance to ecosystems, environmental science and society. With such complex topics surrounding biogeochemistry, Abby often struggles to find effective resources to explain the relevance and importance of this research to K-12 audiences. These collage panels serve as a visual teaching tool and art-science project that can be used to help teach these topics and serve as a framework for future art that can help teach additional scientific concepts.
