David Lichter – Fall 2023

“Nature Life Lessons with ThoughtfulDov” Nature YouTube Channel and Instagram Account

David Lichter (he/him) is a junior studying environmental science at CUNY Queens College. David has been a volunteer naturalist for the Appalachian Mountain Club at the Highland Center in Crawford Notch where he delivered talks on how to identify birds. Soon after, he was part of the Black-throated Blue Warbler Crew at Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest conducting bird research. Growing up in an Orthodox Jewish community has led David “to appreciate the way the natural world works together with [his] religion.”

With his love for everything nature, his particular fondness of birds and his infinite pondering, @ThoughtfulDov was born – a YouTube Channel and Instagram account that explores phenomena in nature and discusses what we can all learn from them! For his introductory video, Nature Life Lessons with ThoughtfulDov, David explains his goal to amplify nature life lessons and breakdown how anyone can implement these into their own lives. For his first full video, he created an intricate YouTube Short titled, Can birds teach us smart-self care?, where he dives into a personal experience he had with a cactus wren, a pack of coyotes and bird feeding techniques during his visit to Joshua Tree National Park! He seals this video with the meaningful lesson: “caring for ourselves entails helping others.” Through his content, David slowly walks us through the benefits of understanding science and pausing to take in the lessons nature generously offers.
