HBRF envisions YVoS

The Young Voices of Science (YVoS) program is a free science communication for environmental students, envisioned and launched by the Hubbard Brook Research Foundation (HBRF) in 2020 with support from a small group of private funders.

Now in its fourth year, YVoS continues to thrive and is among HBRF’s signature outreach initiatives. To date, YVoS has served more than 149 students, from 78+ academic institutions, across 5 countries and 3 continents.

Established in 1993, the Hubbard Brook Research Foundation (HBRF) delivers cutting-edge science to decision-makers on the front lines of environmental change. We bridge the gaps between science and education, public policy, land management, corporate sustainability, and recreation. Our programs include roundtable and town-hall events, policy-relevant briefings and bulletins, social and mainstream media outreach, and communication training for students and early-career researchers. Logistical support to scientists and students includes: fundraising; research housing, lab, and storage space; event coordination; and community organizing, all at Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest, located in Woodstock, NH.

HBRF works to support all things Hubbard Brook; the research, students, facilities and connections to society and policy. The research done in the forest is all part of the Hubbard Brook Ecosystem Study, a long-term, collaborative research program that takes place in the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest, a 7,800-acre field site in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. For more than six decades, scientists have used long-term monitoring, experiments, and modeling to build fundamental knowledge about the northern hardwood forests of eastern North America. The Study is a partnership among the USDA Forest Service, the National Science Foundation’s Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) and Long Term Research in Environmental Biology (LTREB) programs, the Hubbard Brook Research Foundation, and scientists from research institutions throughout the world.

Against a backdrop of rapid environmental change, HBRF opens effective channels for action-oriented dialogue between citizens and scientists for smart policy and practice.
