Sinmiloluwa Akande – Spring 2025

Sinmiloluwa Akande is an undergraduate Neuroscience major at Wellesley College, dedicated to making science more accessible to a wide range of audience–regardless of their background or experience in the field. Recognizing that science is a global language, she aims to create engaging, inclusive materials that reflect and celebrate diverse cultures and communities.

As a first-generation woman in STEM, Sinmiloluwa is passionate about increasing representation and visibility for aspiring scientists from underrepresented and underprivileged backgrounds.

For her outreach project, she created a blog called Sciency Spicy, designed for people who are curious about starting in a STEM research lab but aren’t sure where to begin. Understanding the challenges of navigating these spaces without prior exposure, she uses her blog to share what she wishes she had known when she started her own research journey. Her goal is to equip aspiring scientists, especially those entering a wet lab for the first time, with the knowledge and insights she wishes she would have had when she began her own research journey.
